Secretary of State for the Colonies telegraphed on the 25th
October 1901 that the War Office had consented to waive this
condition.
Condition VIII. "The Dock Company will not
erect any building or chimney which will mask the fire of the
Kowloon fast Battery."
This condition was agreed to by the Dock Company
on the 28th June 1901.
Four special conditions were imposed by the Colo-
nial Scvernment viz:-
(1) "The expense of forming a new cable reserve
and shifting the existing cables thereto to be borne by the purchaser." This condition was accepted by the Cock Company on the 9th June 1902. It was made by the Colonial Government in view of the Acting Director of Fublic Works report of the 19th
September 1900 above referred to.
(2) "The purchaser to resume and hand over to the
Government free of cost a strip of land 50 feet in width adjoin- ing and to the East of Gillies Avenue and extending from the
harbour to Eulkeley Street."
(3) "The entire area to be reclaimed and levelled
off to such levels as the Director of Public Works may approve and protected by a substantial sea-wall, or otherwise, to the
satisfaction of the Director of Public Works."
(4) "Such reclamation to be completed within years of date of sale and a sum of not less than $50,000 over and above the cost of such reclamation to be expended on rate- able improvements within 5 years of the date of sale."
